Spring cleaning season is here. We understand that not everyone has the time to get their spring cleaning done in one day. That’s why we came up with an 18-day list of things to do around that house that will guarantee you get your spring cleaning done, albeit incrementally.
It doesn’t matter whether you live in a big house or one of the beautiful apartments for rent in your neighborhood. When you go through this list, you will find your home sparkling clean after 18 days.
We’re breaking down spring cleaning into smaller tasks in 18 days for those who just don’t have enough time on their hands.
Day 1: Give the fridge a deep clean
Start with your fridge by taking everything out and giving it a good cleaning inside out. Once you’re done, throw out expired food items and put the rest back in an orderly fashion.
Day 2: Clean the ovens
This goes for both the stove and microwave ovens. Some ovens have self-cleaning features so if you have one, better turn those features on so you can simultaneously clean the other oven.
Day 3: Give the walls a good wash
Up next, it’s time to give your interior walls some loving. Wipe down the dust or give it a good wash. This not only cleans the surface but also does enough to make your wall shine once again.
Day 4: Don’t forget the baseboards
Cleaning the walls will not be complete if you forget about the baseboards. A stack of Magic Erasers, some warm water, and if you’re working on painted baseboards, some dish soap should do the trick.
Day 5: Wash the windows from the inside
Take time to go over all your windows from the inside of the house. Wipe it clean using the right cleaning agents so you end up with a squeaky clean finish with no streaks.
Day 6: Change the curtain and dust the blinds
After you’re done washing all the windows from the inside, you should also take time to dust the blinds from top to bottom and change the curtain to give the room a fresh look and clean feel.
Day 7: Sort through your linen closet
Go through all your linen and see which ones are still in great condition and which ones are already worn out and ready to be thrown away. This goes for all types of linens: bedsheets, pillowcases, towels, table cloths, and other similar items.
Day 8: Move on to the master closet
The master closet is not untouchable when it comes to spring cleaning. Set aside a day to go over all the stuff inside and purge. Sort the items into decluttering piles as you take them out. Then once you’re done, purge some more as you put them back.
Day 9: Clean the light fixtures and replace busted bulbs
Dull lighting around the house is sometimes caused by accumulated dust and dirt over time. Clean all the lighting fixtures around the house and check for busted bulbs. Replace bulbs as needed.
Day 10: Clean and organize
the pantry
The pantry is quite notorious for clutter in the kitchen. Do the same thing you did with the master closet. Purge, purge, purge. Take everything out and wipe down all the surfaces both inside and outside the pantry. Then neatly stack everything back.
Day 11: Give your office and workstation some love
Now that a lot of people are working from home, makeshift offices and workstations have sprung up in homes all across the country. Clean your desk. Untangle all unsightly wires and bundle them up neatly. Vacuum if you need to.
Day 12: Time for the
bathrooms
Bathrooms are relatively easier to do because of their size. Wipe down all the hardware, the walls, the showerheads, the mirrors, and the toilet. Give the floors a good scrub. Don’t scrimp if your bathroom needs to be recaulked.
Day 13: Wash the windows from outside
Let’s go outdoors for one day. Hose down your windows from the outside with clean water and wipe them clean with a microfiber cloth. Use a sponge mop on a pole to reach windows on higher levels.
Day 14: Make your floors sparkle and shine
It shouldn’t take you a full day to sweep the floors and vacuum all over the place. If you want a polished look, apply wax on your floors and buff them out.
Day 15: Wipe down all your tables and chairs
Tables, chairs, and all other furniture should be cleaned as well. Dust them off and wipe them down using a cloth dipped in a mild soap solution. Use a dry microfiber cloth afterward to wipe them dry.
Day 16: The laundry room deserves some TLC
Laundry rooms are another easy-to-clean part of the house. Wipe the tops of the washer and dryer then sweep the floor. Make sure to stack all the detergents neatly on a shelf or corner of the room to avoid a cluttered look.
Day 17: Work your way around the kitchen
When you’re working in the kitchen, make sure that you wipe and disinfect all the surfaces, from countertops to tables to cabinets to floors. Don’t forget to clean the filter in your hood range and replace it as needed.
Day 18: Get the garage cleaned up and organized
Lastly, it’s time to clean out the garage and get it organized. Take everything out of the garage first. Then take the time to go around and see if things need to be repaired. Work on the repairs and then clean the whole place up. Organize as you put everything back inside.
This list serves as a guide and can still be tweaked to your preference. The goal is to give you an idea of how to break up your spring cleaning into something you can manage, especially if you’re busy.
